Need:
Jalihal community was facing significant communication challenges, with a lack of effective mediums to disseminate crucial information related to agriculture, education, health, and women’s empowerment.
Goal:
Establish a community radio station to bridge this communication gap and provide a platform to guide and inform the community about various everyday issues and government schemes.
Implementation Notes:
YPS set up well-equipped studios in Sangli and Jalihal, with programs recorded at Sangli and transmitted through the Jalihal studio. The local community was encouraged to participate actively. The radio station was named Yeralavani 91.2 FM.
Results:
The radio station won the National Award for ‘Best Creative Content’ in 2013. It has been instrumental in bridging the gap between the underprivileged community and the outside world. It also serves as a platform for youth and students to link with better educational opportunities in cities. The radio station uses innovative strategies to guide Backyard Poultry participants and trains the younger generation in recording, interviewing, and editing programs.
