Scaleable AI for Rural Kids

RoboKavi - Your Personalized Poet

ROBOKAVI is an open-source initiative designed to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programming to high school students and their parents in rural, agriculturally focused communities. Developed collaboratively by local engineers and high school students, this project features a unique Core XY machine paired with an AI computer that physically writes custom poems in two languages. Maintained by students from SCOPE Digital School, ROBOKAVI aims to raise AI awareness and provide practical technological training, bridging the digital divide and fostering future-ready skills within these communities.

Project Mandate: Empowering Rural Communities Through Technological Education

The foundational objective of this initiative is to introduce the transformative fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programming to high school students and their parents, particularly those within agricultural communities. Our commitment is to facilitate comprehensive understanding of these technologies, ensuring accessibility and engagement without generating cognitive overload.

A distinguishing characteristic of this project is its adherence to open-source principles, coupled with its development by a collaborative local team comprising engineers and high school students. This localized, hands-on methodology ensures the developed technology is pertinent, comprehensible, and collectively owned by the community.

Defining ROBOKAVI

ROBOKAVI is an innovative, open-source endeavor that integrates a Core XY machine with an AI computer. This system is engineered to physically transcribe custom poetic compositions in two distinct languages.

Beyond its technical sophistication, ROBOKAVI functions as an active, evolving project. It is meticulously maintained and operated by the high school students enrolled at SCOPE Digital School, providing them with invaluable practical experience in AI, robotics, and engineering.

The Imperative for ROBOKAVI

In an increasingly digitized global landscape, universal access to and comprehension of emerging technologies are paramount. ROBOKAVI addresses two critical requirements within our rural communities:

  • Elevating AI Awareness: The project aims to demystify Artificial Intelligence by showcasing its tangible and creative applications. Through direct interaction with AI, we endeavor to stimulate curiosity and foster understanding within rural populations, transitioning from abstract concepts to practical implications.

  • Cultivating Future Expertise: ROBOKAVI serves as a hands-on platform for youth to acquire and refine proficiency in AI and CNC technologies. The ongoing maintenance and operation of the machine equip students with highly relevant skills for the contemporary workforce, thereby expanding their future opportunities within the local community.

ROBOKAVI exemplifies the synergy achievable when technological innovation converges with community participation. We invite you to explore the future with us, one meticulously crafted poem at a time.

  • Every one of our 200+ students across all grade levels received a personalized poem generated by Robokavi.

  • Many 8th-grade students entering SCOPE possess no prior computer experience; however, by 10th grade, these same students successfully executed complex commands like “git clone” on project repositories.

  • The entire project was expertly managed, run, and debugged by a select group of 10th-grade students.

RoboKavi was in the News!

Note From Designer

This is my best attempt to show you all what YPS have been working on and what we are excited about upcoming future. However, its impossible for me to make you feel what I feel in Jalihal, a classic Indian country side.

Its partly because of lack of man power and partly my lack of ability to design the website. So, here is an open invite to anyone reading this, Come Visit Jalihal! its beautiful, sunny, spacious and the people are super generous!

P.S. If you want to help us design better websites, please reach out pranjal@yeralaproject.org
